Daily Helping Hands Need Our Help To Survive : Supporting ASHA workers, BBMP pourakarmikas and waiters in catering services & restaurants
Note: Dear community members, we are increasing the goal amount from Rs. 10 lakhs to Rs .20 lakhs to support more families who are affected due to the lockdown. Thank you for your continued support.
The coronavirus pandemic has brought the world to an abrupt halt. Ever since the catastrophe has unfolded in India, it has majorly affected the unorganized sector of this country meaning the daily wage workers such as house helps, municipality workers, auto-rickshaw wallahs, drivers, construction workers, etc. While a lot of us have been able to stock up on essential supplies and gone into quarantine, a sore cloud of adversity has broken in the faces of those whose income depends on their daily work. Ever since the lockdown, the daily wage workers are left with no backing or means to earn their daily bread to be able to sustain themselves or their families.
With literally nothing to cover them during the trying times of medical emergency, the sun of hope broke its light upon them in the form of the many people and stakeholders who have been relentlessly and selflessly coming forward to help them. While the Government continues to take aggressive steps to address the crisis at hand, it is the need of the hour for all responsible citizens to come together in greater numbers and avert the effects of devastation that has especially and unfortunately exposed the daily wage workers to an acute financial vulnerability.
As desperation prevails among the disadvantaged communities, every single contribution counts. In our own bit to stand by the countrymen, Pranitha Foundation together with Efforts For Good and The Logical Indian Community has initiated #HelpTheHelpingHands campaign to raise funds for the daily wagers. In its first quarter, the Foundation will be taking care of 500 families for the next three weeks. Thereby, every little contribution received through this initiative will ensure that every household is stocked up on essential items.
A number of people from the vulnerable communities have existing medical conditions which is why they are required to abide by a prescribed diet and certain medicines to be taken consistently. In addition, there are pregnant women who also require special attention with respect to medicine and food. While we fight the coronavirus, we cannot afford to overlook the many challenges that are in our way to provide equitable sustenance to all. Therefore, the funds collected will be utilized by these families to buy medical supplies and emergency food items for all people on special diets including babies. A small effort from each of us can ensure that every home, besides all things else, is also able to stabilize its finances during the lockdown period.
COVID 19 may have forced us into social distancing but social solidarity still prevails. The unprecedented support from our community members can go a long way to nurture this sense of solidarity and further the cause of humanity. Like they say in beautiful books, “This too shall pass.”
Campaign FAQs
1.For what purpose do the daily wager families utilise the funds?
A number of people from the vulnerable communities have existing medical conditions which is why they are required to abide by a prescribed diet and certain medicines to be taken consistently. In addition, there are pregnant women who also require special attention with respect to medicine and food.
2.How are the needy families identified ?
We have collaborated with trusted non-profits to identify needy labour families.
3.During the lockdown how do you transfer funds to beneficiaries?
We are working on ground with NGOs who have already identified 350+ beneficiaries so far. Since the funds we are collecting are for emergency usage(for detailed information kindly read the campaign description), the identified beneficiaries will receive the funds via UPI apps and bank accounts. If needed our volunteers in small numbers will reach out to the beneficiaries adhering to social distancing norms.
4.Apart from donation what are the other way I can help daily wager families ?
During the shutdown and lockdown period kindly make sure you pay the salary without any cuts to your maid and driver. Also if you come across any stranded migrant worker who are out of work help him/her with food and water.
In your own way you can make this world beautiful. Stay Safe.
