Acid attack survivors have always had to deal with a host of problems ranging from the need for quality medical intervention, psychological help, obtaining compensation and justice, rehabilitation, education, skill training for future employment and social stigma.
At Make Love Not Scars we have tried to approach the problem at hand in a holistic manner. We try to address every aspect of the multiple issues faced by survivors.
In 2015, MLNS started the world’s first rehabilitation centre. The centre provided educational support, served as a safe haven for survivors to recover from surgeries and escape abusive environments and a hub for skill training.
Over the years, the centre has evolved to cater to the many needs of the survivors.
When the covid19 pandemic started, we realized that we would have to increase the amount of help that we were extending to the survivors. We started providing monthly ration stipends that helped survivors through the tough months of the lockdowns. Since most survivors come from economically weak backgrounds, this aid was necessary.
Additionally, we also fund the monthly medicines expenses that a lot of survivors need help with.
Apart from extending a helping hand to the survivors, we widened our approach by helping their children as well. The children of the survivors were finding it hard to continue their education due to lack of funds at home and inability to attend online learning. We can now say that we proudly help keep their children in school too. This has helped us broaden our impact.
As of 2021 our rehabilitation centre is still operational but is under threat of being shut down due to lack of funding and an increase in spending. The centre is the space through which survivors heal from past traumas and recover from current procedures that they otherwise would not have access to.
The funds that we are collecting will not only help keep the centre up and running but will also help us maintain our monthly stipend system, cater to the survivors monthly medical needs, their children’s education and their own educational needs. We cannot make the survivors independent without your help.
Your donation will go a long way in ensuring a brighter future for the survivors who currently rely on our aid. If we do not raise these funds we will not be able to put food on the table for many, our survivors will lose their centre, their education and that of their children will be stalled and their monthly expenses will be too large for them to bear. We urge you to consider being a part of our journey and helping us sustain.
Without your intervention, we will not be able to make it through these tough times that have had a far reaching impact the world over.
